Welcome to your float tank experience at Niyama Wellness Sanctuary.

Come and relax and unwind in our beautiful new large float tanks. 

Float on your own or with a friend. Our float tanks are big enough for two, or super luxurious for one!

A float tank - also known as a sensory deprivation tank - is the experience of floating in a tank filled with salt water. As you lay there, you’re sat in complete darkness in about 12 inches of water. The water is combined with epsom salt, meaning you can float as you lie on your back.

Whilst you lie in the water, the epsom makes the water nearly 10 times more boyant than the ocean/sea water.

The water and air is heated to the same temperature as your skin, so whilst you float some claim that you feel like you’re floating in ‘thin air’.

This is combined with the fact that you’re lying very still in the water - your body barely moves.

As a way to disconnect from stress, float therapy has become very popular.

This is the method of using float tanks to completely relax and switch off from the world.

As you have more float therapy sessions, people often learn how to achieve deeper levels of relaxation.

Because there’s so much salt in a float tank, your skin actually absorbs magnesium via the water.

So it doesn’t just feel good but this can improve your skin and helps your body absorb vital minerals too!

Uses Of Float Tanks for Therapy

Physical Therapy

  • More blood circulation: as you relax in a float tank, more blood can flow through your body. Healthier blood circulation is associated with muscle tissue repair.

  • Athletics: From MMA fighters to long distance runners, float tanks have been used by athletes to boost energy, increase rest and reduce body fatigue.

  • Pain Relief: Arthritis, backache and migraines have all been treated via float tanks, and even chronic pain conditions too. As the mind relaxes, pain relief tends to drop too.

  • Immune System: When we’re stressed, our immune systems drop due to high levels of cortisol. Relaxing in a float tank can therefore help to fight immune system problems.

  • Healing The Body: Float tanks may even bring higher levels of internal homeostasis, as the body relaxes, reduces stress and minimises body fatigue.

Let us answer the most common questions about floats

People quite often have many questions before their first float. Firstly, rest assured that you are in complete control of your environment.  Though the flotation experience is designed to be with the door to the tank shut and the interior lights off, you are certainly not required to do either.  Feel free to leave the lights on and shut your eyes, turn them off and leave the door open or anything else you please.  The whole point after all is to be comfortable.

Float tanks are unique environments like nothing on Earth. Take the time to familiarise yourself with the environment settle your mind and find a comfortable position, relax, breathe let it be. The first 10 -15 minutes for a first-time floater can be challenging as the body and mind adjusts to the reduced stimulation of the floatation room. To help quieten your mind, we suggest using similar techniques as in yoga and meditation. Once you’re settled in the pod, start by releasing tension in every part of your body. Then, take some deep breaths, focusing on filling your lungs with air and exhaling completely. As you begin to feel your body relaxing, let your mind wander and try to observe your thoughts rather than becoming absorbed and overwhelmed by them.

Remember a float session is typically 1 hour. There are systems in place to notify you when time is up, so lay back relax and enjoy the solitude. If you think how long have I been in here? Everyone does, stick with it - the best is yet to come, about now it’s common to drift off so don’t be surprised to be woken by yourself snoring, twitching or the sound of music signalling the end of your first float session, you will wonder where the time went! And don't worry - there is around 500kg of espom salts in the bank, so you can't sink!  

To kick of your floating journey, we recommend at least 3 sessions are needed. Floating is an experience like no other so your first float can often be about familiarisation and knowing a little more about what to expect.

Are floatation tanks clean?

This is a common question asked about  our sensory deprivation tanks. In fact, floatation tanks are incredibly sanitary. Thanks to technological advancements in water-filtration methods, float pods are now fitted with high-quality UV disinfection equipment and commercial water-filtration system. The high-tech filter removes particles 15 times smaller than a typical filter.

Our Pod rooms are conveniently fitted with private shower facilities. We also provide the highest quality body wash shampoos and conditioners and even supply fresh linen towels with every float. Clients shower prior to their float to ensure the highest hygiene standards and again post float to wash of residual Epsom salt.

How often should you use a float tank?

You will feel the benefits immediately after your first float. However, we find that it can take 2-3 sessions to feel the full benefits of floating. Therefore, we recommend booking at least 3 sessions spread out over several weeks. For long term benefits, monthly float sessions are ideal.

After a floating session you will feel a sense of wellbeing, relaxation, focus, energy, ease of movement and calm.
